Abstract: This article focuses on the understanding of prison slang by correctional officers and civilian staff in a specific Czech prison. The research is based on a questionnaire survey aimed at determining the extent to which staff can recognize and comprehend typical slang expressions used by inmates. The study is supported by relevant academic literature as well as practical insights from the prison environment. It builds on a previous research project that focused on inmate slang in the same correctional facility.
